Choked, Anurag Kashyap’s Netflix film on demonetisation, is crisp and thought-provoking

With Choked, Anurag Kashyap brings together stellar writing, a talented cast & his signature dark style to talk about our relationship with money.

What would you do if you found wads of cash floating in your kitchen drain one day?

A still from ‘Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai’
It’s a fantastical, crazy and terrifying scenario to be presented with. Anurag Kashyap takes this premise and lays bare the complexities of our relationship with money in an intelligent, thought-provoking manner in his new feature film, Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai.

The Netflix-backed film stars Saiyami Kher (of Mirzya fame) and Malayalam actor Roshan Mathew.
Set in the context of the 2016 demonetisation, Choked tells the story of Sarita Pillai (Kher), a bank teller with a long-sacrificed dream of making it big as a singer that routinely haunts her. She lives with her unemployed, negligent husband, Sushant (Mathew), and eight-year-old son in a cramped, one-bedroom apartment in Mumbai. Sarita’s small, despondent life is turned on its head when one night, she finds wads of carefully packaged cash gushing out from underneath her leaking kitchen sink. Will this money be the answer to all her prayers or a curse she never anticipated?

Atlas Cycles shuts down, 700 people lose jobs

Following closure of its Malanpur unit, company had only two operational units – at Sonipat in Haryana and Sahibabad in UP. But with closure of Sahibabad unit, company has closed down its last factory

On World Bicycle Day, one of the most famous Indian bicycle brands – Atlas Cycles – stopped all operations on Wednesday.

The Haryana-based company, which started manufacturing bicycles in 1951, had already closed down two units in 2014 and 2018. While in December 2014, its Malanpur unit in Madhya Pradesh was closed down, it suspended manufacturing at its Sonipat unit in 2018.

Earthquake hits Delhi, Noida, Faridabad surrounding areas

New Delhi: An earthquake of 3.2 magnitude hit Delhi, Noida and the surrounding areas on Wednesday (June 3, 2020).

Earlier on May 29, a mild intensity earthquake of 4.6 magnitude on Richter scale jolted parts of eastern Haryana and Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) at 9.08 pm. The earthquake's epicentre was Rohtak in Haryana and the depth was 3.3 kilometres.
Delhi and near-by areas have experienced at least 6-7 earthquakes in the last one month, increasing tension for the people who are already facing troubles due to coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
While speaking to Dr Soumitra Mukherjee, Professor of Geology at Jawaharlal Nehru University over the topic on frequent earthquakes in the past few weeks, he said that there is no need to worry about it as these tremors occur every year but yes it is necessary to be vigilant.
According to the opinion of experts, there are small earthquake tremors in Delhi which are 3-4 standard on the Richter scale. However, the danger is when the earthquake magnitude is above 4 on the Richter scale, especially in those areas where the houses are not strongly built.
'However, no major earthquake shock has been predicted yet. But because Delhi Seismic Zone reads in four, it is necessary that these houses have a safety audit,'' he added.
